October Pilgrimage Calendar Jharkhand 2026 — Best Bus Routes for Navratri & Dussehra

October is the most important pilgrimage and festival month of the year for groups from Jharkhand. Navratri, Dussehra, and Durga Puja all fall within this month — creating an extraordinary convergence of spiritual and cultural events that draw millions of pilgrims and tourists across eastern and northern India. If you are planning any group travel in October 2026, this calendar will help you plan and book at the right time.

October 2026 festival calendar

**Sharad Navratri**: The nine nights of the goddess begin in early October 2026. This is the most important Navratri of the year for most of Jharkhand's pilgrims. The Chhinnmasatika Temple at Rajrappa, Vindhyavasini at Vindhyachal, and Vishalakshi at Varanasi are the main destinations.

**Durga Puja (West Bengal and Odisha)**: Runs simultaneously with the last five days of Navratri — Shashthi through Vijayadashami. Kolkata, Bishnupur, and Cuttack are the major Durga Puja destinations from Jharkhand.

**Vijayadashami (Dussehra)**: The tenth day after Navratri — celebrating Lord Ram's victory over Ravana. Major Dussehra celebrations in Jharkhand take place in Ranchi (at Morabadi ground), Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. Outside Jharkhand, Mysuru Dussehra and Delhi Ramlila are famous but require significantly longer travel.

**Kojagari Lakshmi Puja**: The full moon night after Vijayadashami — dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. Particularly observed in West Bengal.

Week-by-week October travel guide

### Week 1 (Navratri Days 1-3): Best time for Rajrappa

The first three days of Navratri are the ideal time for Rajrappa pilgrimage from Ranchi. The temple is spiritually charged but not yet at peak crowd levels. Groups departing Ranchi by 5 AM can complete Rajrappa darshan, visit Patratu Valley, and return to Ranchi by evening.

Buses from Ranchi to Rajrappa during the first week of Navratri: depart 5 AM, reach by 7 AM, darshan by 9 AM, return by noon.

### Week 1-2 (Navratri Days 1-7): Vindhyachal and Varanasi circuit

The first seven days of Navratri are the best time for the Vindhyachal-Varanasi pilgrimage from Jharkhand. Bus demand on this route peaks on Ashtami and Navami (Days 8-9) — groups who travel on Days 1-7 have a more comfortable experience with shorter temple queues.

The 3-day Ranchi-Varanasi-Vindhyachal circuit departing on Day 1 or 2 of Navratri is our most popular October booking.

### Week 2 (Navratri Days 7-9 + Durga Puja): Peak demand — book very early

Days 7-9 of Navratri (Saptami, Ashtami, Navami) coincide with the main Durga Puja days. This is the single busiest week of the year for pilgrimage buses from Jharkhand.

All routes — Rajrappa, Vindhyachal, Varanasi, Kolkata, and Prayagraj — are at maximum demand. Groups who have not booked their October buses by mid-September will find it very difficult to secure quality vehicles.

### Week 3 (Post-Dussehra): Quieter pilgrimage window

The week after Dussehra is one of the best times for outstation pilgrimage from Jharkhand. The crowds at major temples reduce significantly, weather remains excellent (October is arguably the best travel month in India), and bus availability improves. Routes to Puri, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Patna are particularly comfortable during this window.

Most in-demand October bus routes from Jharkhand

**Ranchi to Rajrappa**: Highest demand locally. Book 2-3 weeks early.

**Ranchi to Vindhyachal + Varanasi**: Most popular multi-day October circuit. Book 3-4 weeks early.

**Ranchi/Dhanbad to Kolkata**: Durga Puja tourism. Book 4-6 weeks early — hotels fill first.

**Ranchi to Prayagraj**: Post-Navratri circuit. Moderate demand.

**All routes to Puri**: Continues year-round. October is excellent weather for Puri beach and temple.

October packing essentials

October weather in Jharkhand and across the pilgrimage belt is generally excellent — post-monsoon clarity with mild temperatures. However:

  • Carry a light jacket for early morning temple visits — October mornings at Rajrappa and in the hills can be cool
  • Rain gear for early October — the monsoon tail can bring occasional showers in the first two weeks
  • Sun protection for afternoon travel and beach destinations (Puri, Digha)
  • Traditional attire for Navratri temple visits
